In this lesson, I will walk you through how to register for the SAP Ariba Business Network. The Government of Canada requires you to have an account with SAP Ariba to bid on tender opportunities on the CanadaBuys website.
The Government of Canada resource is a step-by-step guide to getting set up with SAP Ariba. However, as there have been some updates since this resource was created, I will walk you through the relevant steps.

Before you search for opportunities, you need to understand what you’re reviewing.
In this module, you’ll learn the difference between a Request for Standing Offer (RFSO) and a Request for Supply Arrangement (RFSA), how call-ups work, and how the Government of Canada structures procurement for goods at the national and regional levels. By the end of this module, you’ll understand how goods are commonly purchased and which procurement vehicles are most relevant to your business
In this module, you will learn how to locate federal procurement opportunities using CanadaBuys, the Government of Canada’s official procurement platform.
CanadaBuys publishes federal tender opportunities, including Requests for Standing Offers (RFSOs) and Requests for Supply Arrangements (RFSAs). These notices allow suppliers to see when the government is seeking goods or services and provide instructions on how to submit an offer.
The goal of this module is to help you identify opportunities that align with the goods your business provides, and to develop a basic strategy for reviewing and filtering those opportunities effectively.
In the previous module, you learned how to locate procurement opportunities on CanadaBuys and conduct a preliminary review of Requests for Standing Offers (RFSOs).
In this module, I will take you a step further by introducing you to SOSA open data, a publicly available dataset that provides insight into active Standing Offers and Supply Arrangements across the federal government.
Using this dataset allows you to better understand the procurement landscape before you invest time preparing an offer.
Rather than approaching procurement opportunities without context, SOSA data can help you identify:
How many suppliers currently hold a Standing Offer or Supply Arrangement in your category
Which departments are purchasing those goods
Whether a market appears highly competitive or more concentrated
When existing arrangements may expire and potentially be renewed
This type of information can help you be more strategic when making decisions and evaluating procurement opportunities.
Federal procurement opportunities do not appear on a predictable schedule, which means that monitoring opportunities regularly is an important part of participating in the federal marketplace.
A procurement watch system helps you stay informed about relevant opportunities while avoiding the need to conduct the same research from scratch each time.
REMEMBER:
Not all standing offers reopen predictably.
Some may be amended.
Some may be replaced by different instruments.
Always verify details on CanadaBuys.
Congratulations on completing this course!
